From the Editor - On Joke Reviews

For the April Fool's issue, I thought I'd get a little serious, and give an apology. In our last issue, we ran two joke reviews for a CD. The point was to have a little fun with the internet translators. The problem is that it is difficult to end up with a message that makes any sense, so the reviews were lacking actual comments, praise, and criticisms. After some discussion, we arrived at the conclusion that this is not considerate towards the artist or her work.

Having a review that has no constructive criticism or compliments for the album is not OB policy. The reviews were taken down at the request of the reviewers and a majority vote. So I thought I would take the time to explain our reviewing policy and process briefly.

Our policy for reviewing music is merely that any comment, whether criticism or praise, should be constructive. Our goal is for the reviews to be as informative for the bands as they are for any other readers. We also encourage people to give the CD to someone else if they just can't stand the music. The point of this whole policy and our having two reviewers is to ensure that bands are not bashed merely because they are of a certain genre or something similar. Likewise, when they receive praise or criticism from two persons, then those opinions are more informative.

The process is very simple. Local albums are given priority. Full lengths, people who follow up, and those who follow our guidelines for sending in albums come second. After that, we allow members to pick from the plethora of remaining CDs. It stinks that we cannot do all of them.

All of thise being said, I apologize to Mandi Perkins. Perhaps she still has never heard of this website, but I am sorry. She does have a great voice, and no insult was meant from the reviews. But I, and the rest of staff, apologize for not taking her album seriously. So since we couldn't get around to reviewing her album, you can check it out here. I hope you enjoy! -Pocket
